Every month, CCGMS offers a free class to its members. These classes vary with a different topic each month. All have to do with the mission of CCGMS, which is bringing the study of rocks, minerals, gemstones, fossils, and the lapidary arts to the community. It is our hope that these classes will spark the creativity of the students and bring about further study.
Tuesday, October 6 – 6:45 PM to 9:00PM

CLASS INFORMATION: Welcome to FALL, YA’LL ! This First Tuesday’s Class will be October 6th. Lynn will be teaching how to identify minerals.
At our July general meeting two members of our Education Team, Richard White and John Anderson, presented how to teach our new mineral id kit. Over 35 members were at tables and worked with each other to determine which minerals were which while learning the basic characteristics of minerals. Everyone learned and had fun doing it. When we said at the end that we hoped everyone felt comfortable enough to help walk around and help folks while the Education Team teaches this program at our show in November, someone asked to have a refresher before the show. So Lynn Avery, the 3rd member of the team, is teaching the mineral id kit at our October 6th meeting starting at 6:45. There is no fee, but we ask that you please sign up, so we know how many tables and chairs to set up. We hope you’ll come to learn how to use the kits, because they are here for us all to use, maybe even at your own child’s or grandchild’s school!

TO SIGN UP FOR THIS CLASS: Registration for the next class begins at noon on the 15th of each month. Please reach out to our First Tuesday’s Class Chair, Karen Green, by texting/calling her at 404-441-9241 or emailing her at 1stTuesdays@ccgms.org. You will receive a reply indicating if you’re in the class or if you’re on the waiting list.
FIRST TUESDAYS POLICIES: To join this class, it is CCGMS policy that you must be a current member (up-to-date on your membership dues) and at least 16 years old. Typically, no walk-ins will be accepted. Instructors now determine the maximum number of students that they are comfortable teaching for their class, as some projects require more assistance than others. If you’re unable to attend but have a confirmed reservation, please let Karen know as soon as possible, as there could be others on a waiting list who could take your spot.
